Not sure how many times I’ve heard the phrase “super group”, or how many times it turns out that being labelled with this stigma is the equivalent of rather large Albatross being dropped around the neck of said band, but in the case of The Sideshows this turns out to be a badge they wear with pride and the music speaks for itself.  Rich Ragany (The Digressions / Role Models) roped in his friend and former Hanoi Rocks bassist Sami Yaffa, and the powerhouse UK drummer Simon Maxwell to make this a band that stands up to be counted, and by the sound of this opening album have brought the “no fucks given” attitude to the foray.

With the opener ‘Brand New’, that has been released a the first single, you’re smacked upside the head with just how Glam Rock n Roll this sound is, no bells or whistles just a straight up anthem from the off.  ‘I Feel It’ drops in along side the opener like a it was meant to always be that way, this is a reminder to just how rock should be, you find your mind wandering back to when you first heard an band like The Replacments, a raw energy that just can’t be faked. It doesn’t matter where you turn in this album, every corner is filled with heartfelt melodic bangers, ‘Not Sorry’ smacks of Tom Petty at it’s beating heart, ‘Our Love In The Shadows’ wears its edgier side on its sleeve like a badge of honour, then what about the rock pop anthem that is ‘Say Goodbye On A Night Like This’, or what about the early Hanoi sounding ‘This Could Be Everything’, no matter what your preferred flavour of Rock n Roll, its all here for the tasting.

I’d be the first to admit that when it comes to music, new and fresh is always something that will catch my ear, but it doesn’t matter how far you stray from the path, coming back to the grass roots is something that always fill the heart with joy, this opening album from The Sideshows is full of everything that has always been the lifeblood for music lovers of all shapes and sizes. Hit play to light the blue touch paper on this fireball of Rock n Roll album.
