The Meffs have returned with Business, their second full length that is out today via Frontiers Label Group. Fan favourites like So Modern (Keep Up) are captured with all the energy and scuzzy guitars of the live show, while recent heavy hitter Business goes hard, taking aim at the challenges present in subsections of the music industry today. There is no shortage of fast paced moments; Love To Lose is the ideal hype song, while Fight crams minutes of energy into one thirty second burst. Other tracks like Disorder (Wake Up) provide a commentary for the world as we know it, whilst Like Gravity takes the listener on a journey of self-deprecation. Working with producer Dan Weller (SikTh), Business feels like a band staying true to their values, making political music that the world deserves right now, while unashamedly hitting hard with the powerhouse drums and fuzzy guitar sounds that drew so many into their circle.
“The world and this industry tell you to be your ‘authentic self’… But only if your ‘authentic self’ fits a mould. Only if your ‘authentic self’ is on brand. We’re not hard enough but we’re not soft enough, we’re not queer enough but we’re too queer, we’re too rough but not rough enough. But one thing’s certain; we know who The Meffs are and what The Meffs stand for. Business is a soundtrack for the ignored, the excluded and the overworked, whilst being a personal love song to an industry with closed doors just waiting to be pushed open.”
