Musically, Moonraker has been described as Midwest punk through Bad Religion colored glasses. While that’s an apt description, it doesn’t tell the whole story. Their lyrics set them apart from other bands with self-awareness and humor, and metaphors and wordplay, this is a band that knows how to be serious when it’s necessary, but also knows how to roll with the punches when things don’t quite go their way. That idea is at the core of Find Your Fangs, the band’s first single for Punkerton Records. It’s a song that focuses on highlighting situations where the desired outcomes just don’t materialize, leaving you feeling lost and useless. The track is the first taste of the band’s soon to be announced album that will be released in the Fall.
“So, sometimes in life you might find yourself unemployed and feeling a little useless. You might find yourself interviewing for jobs you think you’d be pretty great for and not hearing back and feeling more useless. You might find yourself going to see a friend’s band and before you get out of the car, you might think you spotted someone going in that you’re afraid if you run into said person inside, you know you won’t be able to pretend to be cool about some stuff that has happened between the two of you and so to not cause a scene and ruin the evening for a bunch of people, you might find yourself heroically saving the day by not being able to get out of your car and driving around the parking lot a few times ’til you’re able to text your friend some reason that you had to go. You might find yourself comparing your situation to that of historical American hero, astronaut Michael Collins, the only member of the Apollo 11 mission to not go to the moon ’cause someone had to stay back and hold it down in the shuttle, right? You might find yourself feeling more useless than you did when you got there. Or maybe you’re not like me and this has never happened to you because you’re normal.” (drummer & vocalist David Green)
