Having started life as a one-man bedroom project by multi-instrumentalist Alfie Glass, Torus’ lineup would soon to be completed by bassist Harry Quinn in 2020 and, latterly, drummer Jack Orr in early 2022, the trio coalescing around a shared desire to create music that could bang heads while moving feet, despite their differing musical backgrounds and influences that touch on everything from Desert Rock, to Psychedelic Prog and Punk. It has been a long, winding journey of ups and some downs that led the Milton Keynes, UK born trio to the eventual release of their accomplished debut self-titled album in the summer of 2024. 2025 has seen Torus embark on a new era for the band, with the departure of Harry Quinn and the decision, for now, to proceed as a duo. Jack and Alfie quickly got to work on new songs and jams in this new format, and the first result of those creative sessions has been unleashed upon the world in the form of their new single, Solitary

Blending raw energy with influences from Kyuss and Smashing Pumpkins and hints of Basement, Solitary was written in Alfie’s bedroom studio and co-produced with Louis Perry (Swedish Death Candy). It explores themes of isolation and lost connection and having come up with the initial idea in lockdown, it makes a lot of sense. Musically, Solitary hits the sweet spot between ethereal melody and the crushing heaviness that Torus are so damn good at. The band sound fresh, reinvigorated and keen to keep on moving. This period of intense creativity between Jack and Alfie has resulted in a flood of new material from the band so you can expect a lot of essential new music from Torus over the coming months.

“This track in particular was recorded without click and was actually one of the first takes we did of it, highlighting the precarious nature of the song. We really are pushing a rawer organic sound with all its imperfections, something that maybe we feel the album was lacking, we are incredibly excited to pursue this into our upcoming releases and proud to be doing things exactly the way we want to. Although we did part with our former bassist and creative wizard we are happy to say we are still the best of friends, hence why we asked Harry to film this video giving it the Torus feel it needs. We filmed it outside a burnt down mansion in Cosgrove, Milton Keynes where Alfie grew up. Like a lot of our videos, we made it up as we went along.” (Jack Orr)

Solitary is released on the band’s own label Headcharge Records. Headcharge Club was founded to support and uplift the music scene in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas. It has been driving the grassroots movement locally by putting on DIY events and festivals, helping to build and strengthen the community. These are exciting times for Torus and the band will be touring the UK in January 2026, but in the meantime you can catch them at London’s Blondies Brewery on the 25th October with Lunar Affect and on November 27th at Milton Keynes’ Craufurd Arms with Humour
