From the off, I/We at The Punksite do not endorse Alpha Dog Serum X in any way shape or form, this is a fictional magic drug for the masses, listen to the album for further details on it’s non-uses! This is a band from somewhere in Illinois that have amassed a fair few albums and EP’s over their time in the Punk scene, and this latest release will make Ten, so far.  Let’s Tip The Landlord although just as sarcastic and power chordy (I know a new word I just made up) than the others, is maybe a lot more angry, but then all you need to do is switch the TV on, or pick up your phone, and you can see what there is to be angry about every minute of every day.

‘Vanity Plates’ is this albums opener into a world, an angry as fuck shout at QAnon Mums taking over school boards, if your gonna set your stall out from the off, this is it.  If you delve back into this band’s past catalogue of music you’ll find that’s its mostly fun, but always angry as hell at life in general. This album seems to home in more on the root cause of the world’s anger and woes, the ‘elites’ and disconnected billionaires. ‘Date Night At The Hague’ is a song that highlights megalomania as the new normality, it frames it in a set of wonderful riffs and beats though, a trojan horse kinda track. ‘In Praise Of The Pedestal’ has been the first single release, and it sits well releasing this first, as it has at its core, this albums life blood, a sense of living in a media world full of self praising and reverence for the superficial. ‘Let’s Tip The Landlord’ features Lily Choi and drops like an early Against Me, a rail against what is real, the struggle to live under the thumb of real estate dictators. These first five or six songs alone might have been enough to sell this slice of pure Punk Rock n Roll to myself, but boy do you get more for ya monies worth after this too.

Not sure if it was just myself, but from ‘Summer Games’ which has a beat that feels tribal, this album then onwards somehow feels a little less gruff, it seems to take on a more ear worm ordinated sound. ‘Strategic Humiliation’ has a riff and beat that will stick with you for a wee while, ‘Who Uses Time Anymore’ drops a fucking simple fuzzy guitar riff that has your head nodding uncontrollably, whilst ‘Bioavailable Fail Compilation’ uses a bass line at its core that would feel at home in a Rancid ear worm. Then comes the King Kong of tracks ‘Sirhan Lohan’ this song bucks the catchy melodic trend of the second half, but damn is this a firestorm of a song, If this band only ever released one song in their entire life, this would have to be it!!!!!

The Brokedowns

Think I’ve listened to a few albums by various bands recently that seem to come in two halves, this almost fits the same bill, its angst filled throughout, but the musical overcoat feels like a rollercoaster of emotion, for me this works so damned well, the last thing you want is an album that starts, finishes and feels like nothing really happened, this album never ever feels like a flatline, more of a defibrillator to your brain.
