Australia’s Second Idol have today released their debut full length, Mongrel, through streaming platforms and on vinyl via Gloomshift Records. The album explores identity and belonging in a fragmented, postmodern world marked by isolation and polarisation, delving into themes of feminism, gender, postcolonialism, multiculturalism, imposter syndrome, and heartbreak, making it a true album of our times. It challenges the idea of a singular identity, embracing and celebrating complexity and vulnerability. It defines and consolidates the band’s sound while also reinforcing their values, serving as a conduit to let them say with pride what they stand for. Arguably, what every good rock record should do.
Second Idol will be playing an album launch show with The Maggie Pills at Canberra’s Gang Gang Café on the 6th December and will be also be appearing at the LOUD WOMEN Fest in Sydney on the 7th December and Melbourne on the 14th December.
