Peesh is a name you might know from his work with the Punk Rock N Roll Poetry duo Cherry & Peesh, and also from bands like LoGOz, Monkeys Blood, and Junkster to name but a few. But this latest album is his follow up to Perennial Effect album from 2024 and is a solo affair. So why Perennial Effect 2 you might think, well so did I until I listened to it. It’s about following the flow of what makes you tick, what happens in your life from year to year. So many things can change as you navigate the turmoil around you, especially how the social media phenomenon that has unfolded around us over the last decade has not only enhanced, but also become a noose around the neck of our lives. So why not make an album from the songs that fill your head with these thoughts, well Peesh has, and this is a mind worth listening to.

The songs themselves are time capsules of sorts, they each deliver something of a diary of what its like to navigate a year in the 21st century ‘Under The Radar’ sets the scene, a song that feels like a shout from beneath the rancid acrid electronic online world, this is a driving almost spoken word song that sits perfectly with its dystopian musical overcoat. If you’re brave enough to dive full on into this album then be prepared for something of a mind fuck, musically no it doesn’t break new ground, although it does without any shadow of a doubt have the signature Peesh sounds, sounds that you can’t easily place into a box of any kind. This album has moved away even further from the all out guitar Rock n Roll he is known for, this is all grown up and more about the lyrics that spread words like shots across the bow of life.

When writing reviews, most writers will pick out songs that stand out above the parapet, or moments that deserve to be singled out, well this album isn’t one that deserves this, yes there are songs like ‘The Revolution Will Be Streamed Live’ with is Bowie intro, ‘Traces’ with that signature Peesh rhythm guitar thrash, ‘The Horrors Of Love’ that drives a steak through the heart, ‘Young Blood Runs’ that strikes a chord with those who feel for the youth of the world. However, this is an album that needs to be taken as a whole, its an album that when listened to, every time is different, the stories within are not always laid bare immediately, its words are so full of depth a once over will never do it justice. After being a follower of Peesh and all his music for many many years now, this album is what you would normally refer to as a grower, but I prefer the term all grown up better.
