When you get a press release that’s states the band are like “If the Ramones were Super Queer”, you just gotta go listen immediately and check out why this is. So have I heard of this Australian band before now, no, am I glad they sent us this release to listen to and enjoy, yes.

I’d like to kick this review off with a little about the band, simply because, as maybe like myself you’re not acquainted, and its always nice to get some key info on a first date. Like where are they from, Australia seems to be the place, although it does specifically say Melbourne via Aotearoa and where the fuck the latter is I have no idea. They are a band that holds up the mantle for Trans rights, lays down lyrics that stand up for wrongs against the Trans community, and they do this with some seriousness, but also with plenty of humour and lightheartedness. What strikes a chord on the opening ‘I Wanna Be Your Herfriend’ is that yep the Ramones are 100% a big influence, but also the vocal, if it went down an octave or 3 you could hear Laura Jane Grace on some of her recent poppier tunes. Second track up is ‘Birthday Dress’ and this embodies so much about how this album pans out, its never shy in throwing out lines that have you knowing these are straight to the point songs that won’t stand on ceremony.
It’s obvious only three or so songs in that this is an album full of Pop-Punk perfectness, if you took everything about the genre that you liked and popped it into a blender, this album is what might come out the other end, songs that never pass 3 minutes, its light and happy even when the serious stuff has to be said and it doesn’t dwell on it like an Emo album. You listen to songs like ‘You Don’t Have A Son’ and ‘When I Was A Boy (I Was Really A Girl)’ and the deeply moving and intensely personal are evident, yet these are so uplifting too, this is a band living in a happy place and it feels untouchable, even by the fucked up world around them. Then you get to possibly the best track of the album ‘Gender Therapy’, this is an open and honest song that uses all of the bands angst up in one fell swoop, but even this feels soft and positive.

If having an album in your collection that gives you some pretty honest points of views, drops honesty like its going out of fashion, never loses sight of everything it wants to be, holds all its cards firmly wide open to the world, and with all this leaves you feeling happy and fuzzy about life and what it could hold for you, then this is it! This is Pop-Punk at its very very wonderful best, this is standing up for you and your community, and its fucking class from start to finish, go listen…….
