Last year, former long-time Angelic Upstarts guitarist, Newts Newton, embarked on his post-Upstart journey with his new band, HEED CASE. Previously described by one writer as “principally the fixer & enabler for the Upstarts,” Newt’s new role has evolved dramatically. Once the right-hand man of the late and much-missed upstarts frontman Mensi, he now steps into the spotlight, fronting HEED CASE as both vocalist and guitarist. Building on the success of their debut album, All The Rage, the band are preparing to release their sophomore album, MONGO, this Halloween.

The album’s title is a term the band have coined to encapsulate their shared neurodivergent traits. The line up of Newts Newton on vocals and guitar, Si Cadelik on bass and backing vocals, and the newest member, Mr Dusty on drums, are all diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities. The ten tracks on Mongo draw directly from their individual experiences, offering an honest look at the ways neurodivergence shapes everyday life in unpredictable, frustrating, and often hilariously exotic ways.

HEED CASE continues to broaden their sound beyond punk and psych rock roots. Although All the Rage began their shift with a classic guitar band style, MONGO demonstrates the group is venturing even further outside their comfort zone. On this new release, the guitar is just one element in a broader sonic palette, with the band incorporating more synths, samples, and innovative sound design. This fresh approach promises to intrigue listeners and offer a new musical experience when MONGO is finally released.
