Evil Nature is a Post Punk creation fronted by singer & bassist Dasher Hammet, the band’s story begins inside the walls of the legendary Big Blue Meenie recording studio in Jersey City, a place where bands like Thursday, Taking Back Sunday, The Bouncing Souls, Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Agnostic Front cut some of their most iconic records. Dasher spent a decade at Big Blue Meenie as a sound engineer and producer, and when it came time to start Evil Nature, he pulled together his favorite collaborators from that intense, unhinged, and unforgettable era. Greg Wilkens (Last Perfect Thing) joined on guitar, Fabio Amato (IDK) took the drum seat and Mike Nappi (IDK) joined on second guitar for their new album, making things louder, meaner, and weirder in the best way.
Evil Nature have today released their new album, Quasi-Demonic, through streaming platforms via Mt. Crushmore Records. The new full length was co-produced by Dasher and Richie Kennon (Subzero), who Dasher met during Big Blue Meenie’s glory days when everyone was half-broke but fully obsessed. If their debut album, How and When To Prune Roses, was the setup, Quasi-Demonic is the unhinged follow-up. There’s still melody and shimmer, but it’s buried under layers of fuzz, sneer and storytelling from a narrator you probably shouldn’t trust. The lyrics take on a tone that Dasher calls “a cynical optimism”
“If you don’t like it… in our defense, we were pretty high when we made it.” (Dasher Hammet)
