Diaz Brothers are back with their new full length, The World Is Yours, that is due out on June 6th via Serial Bowl Records, the album follows up on their 2020 self titled debut, which I must admit bypassed me, so I’m going to trot out the usual excuse of so much music so little time and focus on their new release, but I do recommend checking out their debut which you can do here. For the uninitiated, Diaz Brothers are a quintet who emerged from the ashes of hardcore outfit HDQ, and for trivia fans the band’s name is taken from the movie Scarface, which, given the the title of the new album, indicates the band are big fans of Tony Montana.

There’s an odd sensation of familiarity on clicking play on opening track, this is not in the sense that Diaz Brothers sound like one particular artist, but there are strands of so many acts and styles that it makes placing their sound almost impossible, although I wasn’t expecting it to be Sunderland in the North East of the UK, but there you go. Heavy elements blend with emotional moments, classic punk rock sit alongside contemporary influences, vocals that are just on the edge of gruff blend into the fierce duelling guitars. There’s a something about their sounds brings elements of the prime EpiFat years to mind, but then again there is also a whole range of punk moments rolled into the mix.

Chapelfest

It’s fair to say that Diaz Brothers are forging their own sound out of pretty much everything that came before. This might sound like an alloy composed of heavyweight influences, but there’s a soft underbelly present as well, at least lyrically, as many of the themes address personal issues that brings a melancholy touch to the mix. There is of course also rage present, and let’s face it 2025 is a year that is pretty much custom built to cause a degree of rage at the state of pretty much everything at the moment. Diaz Brothers have captured a moment in time on their new album and the world can be theirs, say hello to my little friends.
