Beth Seymour has today released two powerful new singles into the world: Haunted and I Only Want To Break Your Heart. Having taken an extended hiatus from music prior to coming out as transgender, Beth spent her time away recording two deeply personal albums, the first of which, You Wouldn’t Like It Inside My Head, is due for release on August 28th. Backed by her raucous band, The Lizzies, these albums depict Beth’s life story and struggles with identity, mental health and gender dysphoria. Both albums were recorded and mixed by Beth in her home studio and demonstrates the culmination of all her music up to this point.
“There are so many things that I said and did when I was too young to know better and, if I could go back, I would do a lot of things differently. Sometimes in the dead of night, you lie awake and all your regrets creep up on you like monsters from the dark. Learning self-compassion is crucial. Everyone should always strive to be better than the day before, but you can’t fix what you didn’t know at the time. I feel like there are a lot of reasons people who met me potentially wouldn’t like me. I’m loud and opinionated and I’m always putting my foot in it. That’s all valid. But, when it’s because I’m transgender, that really sticks in my teeth. If people will only accept you because of who they think you should be, not because of who you are, then they’re not worth your time. If I’ve damaged a relationship through my own actions, I’m genuinely sorry. If I’ve broken your heart because of my existence, then get out of my face. The first record is the story of how I completely fell to pieces. This sets the ground for the second album at the end of the year where you’ll get to hear me put myself back together.” (Beth Seymour)
