On Saturday April 4th The Punk Rock Museum is celebrating its third anniversary the only way it knows how: with a loud, no-holds-barred parking lot show that will feature Spike and the Gimme Gimmes, Kate CloverXCOMMRiver Ratts and The Whops. In honour of this occasion we were asked to put a few questions to the bands that are playing the The Punk Rock Museum‘s birthday bash, several texts were exchanged between Phinky and Peter Hough in a “lightly refreshed” state, and we came up with a list of questions that will be put to each band, starting with the opening act, the youthful punk duo The Whops.

Punk Rock Museum

If you weren’t in your current band which act past or present would you like to be in?

“We’re two brothers, bound by blood and by this band. Most of the time we move as one.
But in this case, we have to split.”

Frankie: “Fugazi”

Freddie: “The Clash”

Who’s the punkest person in the world?

“Same story. We don’t always agree.”

Frankie: “Ian MacKaye”

Freddie: “Joe Strummer”

If you were shipwrecked as a band, who would you eat first?

“Frankie is so skinny there wouldn’t be much to eat. So it should be Freddie. But Frankie’s vegetarian… So I guess we’d all just starve instead.”

What is your favourite exhibit or part of The Punk Rock Museum?

“We haven’t been yet, and we honestly can’t wait. We chose not to research it too much because we want our first impression to be raw and unfiltered. We’ve heard a thousand stories from friends who’ve been there, but when we play there in April, we’ll finally be able to answer this properly.”

What will you be donating to the The Punk Rock Museum as a Birthday present?

“We’re Italian, and our parents raised us never to show up at someone’s birthday or at someone’s home empty-handed. So since our mum is coming with us, we’ll ask her to bake her legendary Italian focaccia. That definitely deserves a place in a museum.”

If you could have any band gatecrash The Punk Rock Museum’s third Birthday Party who would it be?

“The Offspring. Not just because of what they’ve given to punk rock, but because when we met them, they welcomed us with real warmth and love, like we were already family. In our short time in music, we’ve collected praise, a lot of insults, and a lot of love. It’s all part of the game. But the street teaches you something important: never forget the people who helped you stay on your feet and keep moving forward. The Offspring are definitely among those people.”

What’s next on the cards for your band?

“Recording our first album. We want it to carry the energy and the taste of our busking. We started on the street, and we want our record to smell like the street. In a world dominated by algorithms and artificial intelligence, live music, acoustic guitars, and even imperfections are strongholds of human resistance.”

The Whops

The Whops will also be making their debut at this year’s Rebellion Festival in Blackpool, UK on Sunday 9th August, and they can be found on multiple socials including Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
