On Saturday April 4th The Punk Rock Museum is celebrating its third anniversary the only way it knows how: with a loud, no-holds-barred parking lot show that will feature Spike and the Gimme GimmesKate CloverXCOMMRiver Ratts and The Whops. In honour of this occasion we were asked to put a few questions to the bands that are playing the The Punk Rock Museum‘s birthday bash, several texts were exchanged between Phinky and Peter Hough in a “lightly refreshed” state, and we came up with a list of questions that will be put to each band, today we put those questions to Spike Slawson, the flamboyant frontman of Spike & The Gimme Gimmes who are headlining the Birthday Party.

Punk Rock Museum

If you weren’t in your current band which act past or present would you like to be in?

“The Fall, I guess? On the tenor guitar, even? Seems like it was a real emotional roller coaster, so at least it wasn’t boring, right?”

Who’s the punkest person in the world?

“A militantly stylish drag queen in some shitty rust-belt town. She probably doesn’t even know or care what punk is.”

If you were shipwrecked as a band, who would you eat first?

“Given that I am the most tender of the group, it would likely be I to be eaten first, unfortunately.”

What is your favourite exhibit or part of The Punk Rock Museum?

“I favour the New York section. Punk history goes deep in that city, long before there was ever even a name for it. Just misfits, freaks and wanna-be artists paying cheap rent and making a scene. I saw a meme recently that said “today’s Velvet Underground is driving for doordash”, or something to that effect. That hurt.”

What will you be donating to the The Punk Rock Museum as a Birthday present?

“A BRAND NEW 7″ record by my band, Los Nuevos Bajos, out now on Tamayo/Del Corazón Records. An amuse-bouche, if you will, for the feast of electrified boleros to come. If you like Los Panchos, Los Tres Diamantes, Los Tecolines, etc. you will love it. And if you don’t, fuck you.”

If you could have any band gatecrash The Punk Rock Museum’s third Birthday Party who would it be?

“Surfbort”

What’s next on the cards for your band?

“We will fix the world, one cover at a time. Come together over brand new Gimmes recordings in the not so distant future, should one of those actually exist.”

Spike & The Gimme Gimmes

Spike Slawson will be giving guided tours of The Punk Rock Museum between the 3rd and 5th April and Spike & The Gimme Gimmes will heading to Montreal’s Warped Tour in August.
